Kantele (North Karelian and Finnish kantele, from Proto-Baltic kantles) is a stringed plucked instrument of the Karelians, Vepsians, Finns, and Ingrians. Belongs to the type of zither. A close relationship is revealed with the Estonian kannel, Lithuanian kankles, Latvian kokles and Russian gusli.
